Welcome to Richmond Hill High SchoolCommunityRichmond Hill High School (RHHS) has a long and distinguished history stretching back to the 1800's. It is a school with a very friendly atmosphere, a tradition of academic excellence and strong parental support. We are the school designated to teach the area's gifted children. We are proud of our strong, active Student Council, our very supportive School Council and our extensive co-curricular program of sports and clubs. AdministrationIn response to community expectations for an administration that is accessible and willing to consider the unique circumstances of individual students, the Richmond Hill High School administration provides ample opportunities for parents to voice concerns. The staff at all levels works hard to create both a safe school and an inviting environment in which staff and students can work cooperatively and with mutual respect. We work hard to ensure equity for all and we celebrate diversity. OrganizationRichmond Hill High School is a semestered school. Students may take a maximum of four courses for each of two semesters and may earn up to eight credits over the year. All students who have accumulated fewer than 24 credits, are expected to maintain four courses each semester. Students with 24 credits or more must maintain 3 credits per semester. Our timetable is a one-day cycle with 75 minute periods. We endeavour to balance each student's timetable to equalize the workload for each term. We also try to place courses in the appropriate term to allow students who need to finish in one semester to do so. The School ProgramThe Richmond Hill community places a high value on education. The school prepares our students to meet their post-secondary expectations. Our partners in education, the parents of the Richmond Hill students, support our commitment to excellence, to a strong work ethic and to the endeavours of our students to participate fully in the total school program. The co-curriculum is valued as an important extension to classroom experiences. Enhancements such as curriculum-based field trips and Co-operative Education are considered an intrinsic part of a student’s educational experience. A variety of delivery modes are provided to support the needs of our students identified as Special Education. These include monitoring, resource withdrawal, and in-class resourcing. The Developmentally Delayed Program and the Orthopaedic Program round out the Special Education offering. |
