The Guidance/Career Education Department at Richmond Hill High School provides a variety of services for students, teachers, and parents. Planning Your Future
Post-secondary planning is an activity that needs to begin in Grade Nine. All students are assigned a counsellor who can assist in the development of a long-range plan and ensuring prerequisite courses are selected in order to reach educational and career goals. Students are encouraged to discuss their future plans, attend school presentations and familiarize themselves with post-secondary publications and on-line resources such as:
Supporting and assisting students is a priority at Richmond Hill High School. If students are experiencing a problem, whether educational, personal or career related, they are encouraged to discuss it with a counselor. Counselors will assist with:
- individual and group counseling
- tips on studying effectively, organizing notes, managing time
- educational planning
- university and college applications
- bursary, scholarship, and financial aid information
- interest and career oriented tests
- college and university information and visits
- tutoring referrals
- part time and summer job postings
- referrals to Family Services, Children's Aid, medical and psychological services
- student travel and exchange program information
- course change and course selection counseling
- PSATS and SAT registration
How to book an appointment:
- before or after school, on a spare or during lunch go into Guidance
- book an appointment with a counselor of your choice in the appointment binder
- if the appointment is during a class period, the secretary will give you an appointment slip
- show the slip to the teacher when leaving or returning to class
